Matt Bowling has written three books on the history of Palo Alto.  Two of them can currently be purchased, while the third one is due out this summer.

Nice Day for a Stroll is a walking tour book of downtown Palo Alto, written in 2010.  The tour begins at the Palo Alto Train Depot and winds its way down University Avenue, over to Professorville and back through the Downtown area, covering more than 40 spots in all.  The book can be purchased at local book stores or below online.  It spent a number of weeks in the Top 10 best-selling non-fiction books at Kepler's Books in Menlo Park.  It is the perfect companion for an afternoon of downtown strolling and historical exploration.

Palo Alto History for Kids is a book written in 2011 to bring the city's history to elementary school students.  The book features scavenger hunts, projects, trips and games which attempt to bring the city's history alive for youngsters.  Topics include the Baylands, muralist Greg Brown, the Bol Park donkeys, the California Avenue civic "art gallery" and much more.  Most activities call for students to visit the places mentioned in the book in order to take photographs, find clues or do other related projects.

Palo Alto Remembered: Stories From a City's Past is a larger book which will include 45 stories written by Matt Bowling.  It is a coffee-table book which will also feature many full-sized photographs from the Palo Alto Historical Association collection.  It is due out in the Summer of 2012.
